Error message "Caldav sync error (IO) in smartphones

Open FerbbIT opened this issue 11 years ago • 17 comments

Dear developers,

Since some days ago, some colleagues in our company are viewing an error message in their smartphones (LG P-700, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean) equiped with the CalDavSync v.1.8.1-beta.1 . This version was working really fine.

The error message is: "Caldav sync error (I0): Unable to resolve host" and there is not synchronization between the Zimbra Calendar or Thunderbird Calendar and the Calendar application on the smartphone.

What could be the problem?

the message "Unable to resolve host" means that the client was not able to resolve the host name to a ip address. are those clients connected with the desired network? are they able to reach the server with other tools like k9mail?

The CalDav in the smartphones is configured with the address to our server. For your information, this problems have occurs suddenly. Until this moment, the CalDav was working fine. If we delete the account of a user in the CalDav and then we configure again the account with the same parameters, works fine again. The syncronization is established again.

will this message show up during every sync? Or "disappears" the error after confirmation?

timoberger avatar Nov 13 '13 13:11 timoberger

It seems that this message appears in every sync. In addition, today other user has the following message." CalDav sync error (IO) org.apache.http.auth. AuthenticationException".

has the environment changed in the past? i.e. server name, ip, cretentials (updated password) or something else? we have to surround the error a little bit.

timoberger avatar Nov 14 '13 13:11 timoberger

Not, the environment didn´t change in nothing. Our server name is the same, the smartphones and their configurations are the same (no operating system updates). We have this problem since some days ago, suddenly. We have this problem with the version 1.8.1 beta but also with the v.1.7. Every day some of our users call us with the problem.

i will release the version 1.8.1 officially soon and you can get rid of the beta. these errors may appear from time to time. they are triggered by connection loss mostly. most the time they are not permanent. there is no counter that tracks the occurance (i.e. throw this message after 3rd occurance) at the moment. so every connection loss is visible to the user (unnecessary and uninteresting for the user). a counter and a proper log is planned for version 1.9. how many users do you have? and how often are these error reported? if you don't want to discuss this problem in the open you can contact me at [email protected]

We are fifty users. At the moment, we have around six users that reported the problem, with the v.1.8 or v.1.8.1- beta.1

The error is reported every time the CalDav makes the synchronization. In fact, since some days, these users can´t see any change or modification made from the Zimbra Desktop or Thunderbird calendars reflected in the Calendar application in their smartphones.

i need at least the debug output created by one of the questionable devices. maybe there are more information about the occurred error. the source for this error is the httpClient provided by android itself [1].

  • how are the clients connected to the network (wifi or mobile (maybe the same provider))?
  • are the users with the same error located in the same building or similar environment)?
  • do they use all the same device LG P-700?

  • how are the clients connected to the network (wifi or mobile (maybe the same provider))?.... They are connected via SIM card with a data contract. The provider is the same for all of them, and it's Vodafone Spain.
  • are the users with the same error located in the same building or similar environment)?..... Not, in fact, people who has the problem are located in different regions of Spain.
  • do they use all the same device LG P-700?.... Yes, all of them are using this model of smartphone.

Please, tell me how to generate the debug output, and we'll try to send the report to you.

you will need to install eclipse [1] and the android developer tools [2]. you will also need the source code of the project.

OK, we will try it with a smartphone. Just to inform you, the problem is becoming to be general. People is calling to tell us that the CalDav is not synchronizing the appointments typed in the Calendar Zimbra Desktop or Thunderbird Calendar with the Calendar application in the smartphones.

FerbbIT avatar Nov 20 '13 09:11 FerbbIT

are all your users using the LG P-700?

timoberger avatar Nov 20 '13 09:11 timoberger

Yes, all of them.

FerbbIT avatar Nov 20 '13 09:11 FerbbIT

this seems to be a device depending problem. there are no other reports of this type. if you can't find the error within the debug output i would have to test this by myself with this device.
