Zola needs a logo
Somehow I would like a logo for Zola.
As an example, a koala whose ears are made of the Rust gearwheel.
It's been 5 years but I'm still ok with https://github.com/getzola/zola/blob/master/docs/static/favicon.ico
@proofy May I ask why koala? :grin: If we really wanted new logo, we should (IMHO) follow what's Zola in some way... I would myself suggest the Rust's "gearwheel" but with "Z" instead of the "R" inside.
Looks like a 7 not a Z even after reading and knowing it should be a Z. Also if there were a new logo I would hope it would scale well, I think an SVG logo would be best, maybe something very similar to what is already used as Keats linked, a rust gear could be really cool if done right. Your art while very detailed is to complex I think, in this case I would go for a simple but elegant logo, something that scales very well. all those details will be lost when you shrink it down to say 32x32 pixels.
Good timing I looked into Zola again! Let me offer my version for your consideration.
I tried to stay as close to the current favicon as possible, while conveying the feelings of peacefulness and calmness (which is not easy with the letter Z). Feather is more or less the universal symbol of writing and authoring. The colorscheme is Rust-inspired. Moreover, warm coffe/tea browns are comforting and peaceful, while beige is often associated with paper, which goes well with the feather.
Here's an alternative version with a couple of accent details on the feather:
If you like it and by any chance decide to use it, I can prepare the SVGs and a favicon, license it under CC and make a PR.
PS: human-made, no neural-networks used.
@indiscipline I'm just an onlooker, but I have to say those are fantastic. Nice work! I love the typeface, palette, and feather. The alternate version of the feather with extra detail is my favorite. I also like the small versions of the Z which have more uniform "padding" between the tip of the feather and the structure of the Z.
I really like the concept! I'm not too sure about the font though, I'll think about it
+1 for the "rust gear" still if done properly as @Jieiku suggested above.
But @indiscipline did really great work! The "Z" letter with the feather is especially fantastic idea! The whole logotype should be reviewed a little more. For example, kerning should be fixed and also the baseline does not seem to be straight visually, it looks a little "wavy" (perhaps fixing the kerning will help to fix this too, not sure). But it's really nice otherwise and it just needs a little more careful typographical and detailed work to be perfect. I also would not prefer any color representation, just in pure vectors of "Z" and "Zola" logos and let background, shading, colors etc. decide later on, if possible (the same for "rust gear" logo if anybody created one).
