Global keyboard shortcut to create new tasks from outside GTG

Hi !

Thanks for this application that I enjoy using again after 10 years ;-) A very useful feature would be to be able to launch a popup window with a global shortcut to "capture" a task from anywhere. Is it planned ?

You know I was sure there was a ticket for that here, but maybe I wrote down in my notes and forgot? Yeah, this is a great feature. And we already have the quick add "mini-language" to make it more efficient.

The only caveat is that the user should set the shortcut himself. That way we don't have to deal with the myriad of DE/VMs, and we don't intrude on the user's settings

I think this constraint is very small compared to the daily benefits! It would be super convenient.

An interesting idea too (but maybe it deserves another ticket?) would be to be able to capture an information where you are at the moment of taking a note (name of the application + title of the page for example)... if you don't have a webclipper project ;-)

Some food for thought:

  • Wouldn't https://github.com/getting-things-gnome/gtg-gnome-shell-extension and https://github.com/getting-things-gnome/mozilla-addon do the job in most cases (especially for those who run GNOME)? Those probably would need people to get involved in maintaining/rewriting them though, as they probably don't work on recent versions of GNOME Shell and Firefox (that one in particular, since the move from traditional extensions to webextensions)
  • I wonder if there are restrictions to global keyboard shortcuts mapping when running under a Wayland-compliant window manager? i.e. if they restricted this sort of ability to be configurable/managed only from the compositor/server (such as in GNOME's Control Center) for security reasons...

Another (potentially lazier) way could be to solve issue 418 and then telling users who want this particular kind of desktop-wide integration to set a keyboard shortcut for it in GNOME's Control Center.

This could help to achieve one of the actions described in this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uXdEVeoGRRc (~6min)
