Bug Report: User Rules Not Working in Cursor AI
Bug Report: User Rules Not Working in Cursor AI
🐛 Problem Description
User Rules configured in Cursor Settings are not being passed to the AI context during chat sessions. This renders the feature completely useless.
📋 Steps to Reproduce
- Open Cursor Settings → Rules & Memories
- Add User Rules in the text field
- Save settings
- Open a new chat with AI
- Ask AI to follow your rules
- AI doesn't follow rules and doesn't know about them
🔍 Expected Behavior
- AI should automatically use User Rules
- Rules should apply to all chat sessions
- AI should reference rules in responses
❌ Actual Behavior
- AI cannot see User Rules
- Rules are completely ignored
- AI works as if no rules exist
🌍 Environment
- OS: Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux
- Cursor Version: Latest (affects all recent versions)
- Issue: User Rules not transmitted to AI context
💡 Workaround
Use .cursorrules files in projects (works), but this doesn't solve the global rules problem.
