Unable to Type or Copy/Paste in Cursor AI Chat
I am experiencing an issue with Cursor AI where I am unable to type or paste any text into the chat assistant when it is docked in the sidebar. The input field does not respond to keyboard input, and copying/pasting text within the chat window does not work either.
If I move the chat from the sidebar to the editor, I can sometimes type normally, but not always. In some cases, even in the editor, typing does not work. The keyboard itself is functioning correctly.
Additionally, the problem sometimes disappears in other projects, allowing me to type in the sidebar chat there.
Restarting Cursor AI and updating to the latest version did not resolve the problem.
Technical Details:
- Cursor AI Version: 0.48.6 (user setup)
- VSCode Version: 1.96.2
- Commit: 7da827d66e9b56a846349698c70129a436421240
- Build Date: 2025-03-31T02:50:35.290Z
- Electron Version: 34.3.4
- Chromium Version: 132.0.6834.210
- Node.js Version: 20.18.3
- V8 Version: 13.2.152.41-electron.0
- OS: Windows_NT x64 10.0.19045
Please provide guidance on how to resolve this issue.
I used MSPY, and I tried installing another IME. The result was that I could input normally. After uninstalling, I continued to use MSPY, which still works. I don't know the specific reason, but it should be related to the IME.You can try.

Thank you for your response and for trying to help!
However, I do not wish to add or change any system-level language or input method settings, because everything else on my system works correctly — this issue only occurs in Cursor AI. The problem is isolated to the chat input in Cursor, which occasionally becomes unresponsive (both typing and pasting), and only there.
I believe the root cause lies within Cursor itself, and should be addressed at the application level rather than through system-level input method adjustments.
Same here, when I chat in editor it works, but if I drag chat to another monitor (undock it) it becomes unresponsive, cannot type anything.
None of the suggested solutions work:
- Restarting Cursor AI only helps temporarily (if at all).
- Moving the chat (editor/sidebar/window) doesn’t reliably fix the issue.
- Updating Cursor AI didn’t help (currently on v0.49.6).
- IME changes are not an acceptable solution—this is a Cursor-specific bug, as even vanilla VSCode works fine.
- Reinstalling/resetting Cursor (cache, extensions, etc.) had no effect.
This is clearly a bug in Cursor’s chat UI, especially since:
- The issue is position-dependent (sidebar/undocked vs. editor).
- It persists across reinstalls and updates.
- No other apps (including VSCode) have input issues.
Please escalate this to the dev team for a proper fix. Meanwhile, are there any workarounds that don’t involve system-level changes or reinstalling?
I have same issue too. ctrl+c and ctrl+v doesn't work directly even if I can see my cursor on the chat After the huge upgrade!

same issue with notebook
Same issue, how to solve this?
Use control + shift + v for pasting and Use control + shift + c for copying
@Alecto Bit stupid but ctrl + Shift + v works!
But ctrl + v works if no code/file is open.

Try unlock group on console/terminal panel
The paste issue makes jupyter notebooks essentially unusable within the cursor application. Reports of this date back to at least June with two threads locked for further comments on official cursor forums. This really should have been fixed by now.
Still a thing, after opening chat pane with "Open Chat as Editor" I dragged it onto second monitor. Now I can't type, copy or paste anything inside textbox of chat pane.
