Failing to create liveshare session

I am attempting to create liveshare session in multiple ways but they fail with the same error. The full error is

Error running command liveshare.joinFromActivityBar: command 'liveshare.joinFromActivityBar' not found. This is likely caused by the extension that contributes liveshare.joinFromActivityBar.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Click the liveshare button on the left-hand side panel
  2. Click either the share buttons or the Start Collaboration Session (Share) icon
  3. Observe the failure

This can also be seen by

  1. Cmd+Shift+A to open up the command pallette
  2. Search for liveshare
  3. Click the Live Share: Start Read-Only Collaboration Session
  4. Observe the failure

I am using MacOSX Sonoma 14.6.1 and my OS information is Darwin Kernel Version 23.6.0: Mon Jul 29 21:13:04 PDT 2024; root:xnu-10063.141.2~1/RELEASE_ARM64_T6020 arm64

I was able to resolve the issue by downgrading the Live Share version to 1.0.5918. I'm currently using Cursor version v0.42.5 on Windows 11 (version 24H2, build 26100.2314).

However, I haven't tested compatibility on other operating systems yet.

Same. But I use Live Share version 1.0.5936 since the last year.

On MacOS with the same issue. Downgrading to 1.0.5918 worked.

The slightly more modern 1.0.5936 also seems to work fine. Would love for Cursor to get up to date compatibility wise with the latest version though (or bake-in a similar alternative).

Using 1.0.5936 works for me to create a live share session. Is there also a way to accept/open/join one with Cursor (instead of with VS Code which it natively prompts me to when clicking a shared link)?

I haven't been able to downgrade; at some point I removed the extension, and a search in the extensions marketplace from Cursor it doesn't even appear.
