core Pipeline Project Logotype

Goal

Establish an initial logotype for use on services when referencing this project.

Options

Playing with the name "core" and referencing how the pipeline "fuels" the outer most shell of production, I'm thinking of going with something along the lines of the earth's core and crust.

The logo however is something I got off the internet.

It isn't doing any harm, but it'd be better to find our own logo.

Although this isn't urgent, but just got a few hours making a new logo for Avalon. And here it is :)

It inherited the /\ shape from current placeholder logo (not sure it's right word or not), and referenced the meaning "the island of fruit tree", so the whole shape was like a half of apple, and tree-liked stream lines.

Nice! That last one is pretty. Maybe just missing a specific "avalon" color tone instead of black and we are basically there! Maybe the current blueish tint of the Launcher tray icon?

That would make it:

Blue logo_blue

Here are two alternatives:

Green logo_green

Orange logo_orange

I like the Green or Blue one, they feel positive. The orange kind of feels like it's turning into warning/error color tone. I still tried to pick an orange color that doesn't feel too much like a warning, so it's a soft orange - still like the others a tad more. What do you think?

Sweet! I personally like this red one and the original blue one.

I did a quick vote internally at the studio here, first results:

We can use this as the new icon in system tray for Avalon Launcher.
We can assign it to the tools as taskbar icons - when running outside of a host?

Could we tint it more towards the Pyblish logo? It'll look a little more intentionally related then I think.

Does it work without the white around it somehow? Like transparent outside of the "tree leaves" Maybe then it can also be slightly slightly bigger (1px up, 1px down as those seem white)

I see what you mean. It's not too bad, but I can see how it can use some improvement. It kind of looks like a sampling issue though. Did you resize the image down before using it as an icon?

Otherwise, maybe the tree just needs to be slightly thicker (the center?)

Wow, @davidlatwe - nice. The font at the bottom looks odd though? Is that Open Sans? (which I believe we vendorized somewhere)

Ok, I have generated a series of size of PNG

16x16 (system tray is much pleasant now)
24x24
32x32

... 48x48, 128x128, 256x256

And I have used these PNGs to convert .ico file, also made 800 x 800 .svg with and without AVALON text.

Should I put them into a dir named core/artwork and make a PR, or these should be in somewhere else ?

I thought it would be better if those stuff have their own repo, so I just started to working on the branding guide over here : https://github.com/davidlatwe/avalon-artworks

The ownership will be transferred to here once it's done. Feedback are welcome :)

p.s. current uploaded images are all mono styled logo with blueish background, which mainly for icon usage, there will be colored version coming like these for different use case :

@mottosso Could you have a look at David's proposal? I'd love to see a logo merge into Launcher and avalon core so we can drop the current one.

I'm not too sure whether we'd currently already need an avalon-artworks repo since it's now only to host some smaller logos. But maybe some "presskit" or "graphic" repository could be useful at some point.
