Please merge own-properties fix

A little over a year ago, I provided a fix to improve the way that the validator handles inherited properties (see 471b605366e278397840443c0efadd9006033e6c for the fix). The fix was merged to the develop/next branch, but it was never merged to master.

Could you please merge these changes to master?
