analytic solution for a transient dipole - typo

Open lheagy opened this issue 7 years ago • 2 comments

The solution for a transient electric dipole in em geosci uses erf: image (http://em.geosci.xyz/content/maxwell1_fundamentals/dipole_sources_in_homogeneous_media/electric_dipole_time/analytic_solution.html)

This is inconsistent with Ward and Hohmann (erfc. Note that erfc(x) = 1-erf(x)) image

I see, step on vs. step off. We should add a note to that page that clarifies why this is different from W&H

I agree. In general, I don't really like the term transient response even though it is so commonly used. The transient response only refers to the response of a system due to a change in equilibrium. Really fails to mention whether the response is due to an "on/off" change. I would support the idea to strictly using step-off and step off.
