Intermitantly skipping text surrounded in <...>

Open Myzifer opened this issue 7 years ago • 1 comments

I've noticed a number of authors use <...> for special forms of communications, although in comparison to

header tages when editing the epub's they appear as html entities.

As such,

< = < > = >

The issue here tho is that while using TTS most times it'll skip reading out text surrounded by both, although this doesn't always occur and in those situations it'll read the entity ("Lesser than" or "Greater than") then the text followed by the closing entity.

As a work-a-round I've been converting epub's that use those entities to instead replace them with similar symbols, although native support would be preferable.

The in-built work around method I use is to use the text replacement feature to replace < with ( or nothing. > can also be replaced but only the < will trigger text being omited.

I agree it would be nice if it handled this by default. I am guessing part of the problem is probably the difforent formats of ebooks and if < is a special character in that format, and how it is handled. For example in ereader a line is displayed as this- Wu Qianru has fallen. <Mission failed; Time limit: 8 hours; Accept / Decline;" in an epub file that same line is this-

Wu Qianru has fallen. <Mission failed; Time limit: 8 hours; Accept / Decline;"
