Failed to load extension (Chrome 87)

After downloading the zip from the releases page and attempting to load the unpacked extension, I get the following error:

Could not load javascript 'dist/wildcard.js' for content script. Could not load manifest.

Thanks for the report! Could you try the following:

• unzip the zip file
• examine the unzipped directory. it should have two things in it: a manifest.json file and a dist directory
• in "load unpacked", select the unzipped directory

and see if that works? Sorry, I know the docs are still messy and unclear, but hoping that that fixes things. Let me know if not!

Just tried that, and I get the same error.

Gah, thanks for trying that out and sorry to hear that it's not working! I'm a bit puzzled because I've seen ~5 to 10 people manage to install successfully using this workflow, so there must be something different about your setup that's causing the issue.

To confirm, are you downloading from this link: https://github.com/geoffreylitt/wildcard/releases/download/v0.2.1/wildcard-v0.2.1.zip

Would you also mind telling me what OS you're on? It shouldn't make a difference because Chrome is Chrome, but might reveal something...
