As shown in my [demo-early-glib-mainloop](https://github.com/genodeftest/exaile/compare/demo-early-glib-mainloop) branch, this issue can be solved by starting the GLib main loop before creating the splash screen. See also this discussion: https://github.com/exaile/exaile/pull/349
