Temporary files / chart files at top-level?

There are quite a few Hadley-isms I don't quite understand, and doubling up a README at GitHub as both an .Rmd and and .md is one. I guess if one thinks one has to re-run the README many times then having a full blown knitr document may make sense. But I digress.

In the knitr document you have

fig.path = "README-"

Wouldn't it be a little neater if you made it

fig.path = "images/README-"

to get them out of the way at the top-level? Just a thought, feel free to close at sight unseen :)
