Possible to start transmitting location automatically?

Open ChristopherRWilson opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

Is it possible to have APRSDroid auto start with the system, and begin transmitting location automatically? Basically, my vehicle has an Android powered radio, and I've installed this there. I'd like it to automatically transmit the location every time the vehicle is started.

Thanks

This should be easily possible with an app like Tasker, that can perform actions on certain events. APRSdroid supports that for some time already:

Hi

iam supporting this idea, but i don't know, how to use that in different application than Tasker (i don't use Tasker). I use application Easy Profiles (Obsolete app, but still very good), where i have automatically selected car profile while in the car (NFC tag, bluetooth HF), so it would be nice to run APRSdroid with automatically enabled tracking with my car profile.

I was thinking if you can add an system shortcut of APRSdroid, which you can select to run the APRSdroid with automaticaly enabled tracking. I don't kow exactly how this is called in android, but usualy you can see this shortcuts among widgets.

Then i can just select APRSdroid shortcut in my profile application and run the APRSdroid automaticaly with enabled tracking. Or you can place the shortcut on home screen etc. Using the shortcut is IMO more "universal" and easier for users than API.

Also, if you are planing profiles for APRSdroid (car mode, walker, portable, etc.), the shortcuts for each profiles can start the app with selected profile and turn the tracking automatically, which might be helpful.

Hope you understand what i mean.

It looks like Easy Profiles doesn't support starting intents. Essentially, any application that can do the service-intent automation should do.

I plan to make APRSdroid automatically connect (but not start transmitting) when it is launched, but this isn't completely thought out yet.

Have a look at Tasker, or at any of the Tasker alternatives out there... :)

Now, APRSdroid will remember if it was running on phone shutdown and auto-start in that case.

Please test latest APK and report within a week.
