passNextKey receiving a browser command causes vimium to suspend

After passNextKey is invoked, triggering a browser command like / (Firefox search) <c-j> (Downloads) as the "next keys" will cause vimium to seemingly remain, as if in insert mode. The message Pass next keys persists on the bottom right.
