Firefox reader-mode

Open cl3mcg opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

What command or commands

Use navigation keys in Firefox's reader mode

How should a feature do

When a user has done such steps: Enter Firefox reader mode (F9), the user should be able to navigate through the article with the navigation keys. (this is not an issue in the Vivaldi browser, for example, where the user can enter in the reader-mode and still navigate through the page/article with the usual hjkl, du etc...)

Browser and OS

  • Browser name: Firefox
  • OS name: Windows 10

Name Firefox Version 119.0.1 Build ID 20231106151204 Vimium C - All by Keyboard 1.99.995 NewTab Adapter 1.3.0

It's a known limitation of Firefox.

Firefox's Reader Mode will replace a web page with its own reader page, by jumping to a browser-private URL. For example, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages will be converted into about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.mozilla.org%2Fen-US%2Fkb%2Ffirefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages

While Vimium C is not allowed to work on any URLs starting with about:reader

Any updates on this? It would be neat to have. I enjoye the simplicity of the reader mode and I likewise enjoy Vimium C.

While Vimium C is not allowed to work on any URLs starting with about:reader

Why exactly?

Firefox doesn't allow extensions to run on about:* pages, except about:blank iframes ...

That's a bummer; that would be very cool indeed.
