It would be nice to be able to move a whole stack of dashboard component tabs to a new position

You should be able to move a whole stack of components by holding shift when the mouse is released. You should be able to copy a whole stack of components by holding ctrl + shift when the mouse is released. You should be able to copy a single component by holding ctrl when dragging a component and releasing the mouse.
