Ah! I finally saw your responses. I do think cloth config is a better way to go, than trying to maintain GBFabrictools. Eliminating GBfabrictools will help a LOT to make maintenance easier. Feel free to take a look at the versions I created if you get stuck with anything. Otherwise, I will remove my versions in a few weeks.
