ISO19139

Open frafra opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Hi, I am not sure if it is relevant, but I am trying to write an XSLT transformation to expose EML as ISO19115/19139. I wonder if that functionality could be relevant for IPT as well, and if these alternative methods to provide metadata should be included in IPT.

The idea is to improve interoperability across different software, allowing integration with PyCSW (see also https://github.com/geopython/pycsw/issues/844).

What are your thoughts on that?

Thank you for creating the issue @frafra

If there is user interest in this issue, we can certainly consider adding this feature to IPT.

I think the transformation would be useful to the scientific community in general. But in the US, this would be especially helpful because several federal agencies use ISO19115/19139 as a product and archiving standard. The transform could potentially reduce the burden on data providers, and increase the incentive to contribute to GBIF, by allowing data providers to submit their data to GBIF and expose it to their relevant agency for ingestion without additional work.
