There's no inconsistency as far as I've seen, so the described behavior is what's happening now. I can do this if you'd like, but not 100% sure what the time...
Yeah that's just what happens since there isn't a default or global value. `gzip` seems to just be passed as the compression method value for every configuration level.
Aside from the ongoing DANDI schema issue, the tests are passing for this PR and all the relevant sub-features have been completed.

No I'd tried but ran into the issues described above. Though this problem is limited to the Subject table. I could simply exclude HandsOnTable elements from this change.
