Saving a Layout in Joomla 4 on Gantry 5 displays 404 page in back end

Any attempt to save a layout in the Gantry 5 interface actually DOES save the layout, but produces this 404 page as a response.

Any ideas? It's certainly not critical, but it unnerves the client.

are you using a CDN with the site or caching extensions?

No CDN, no caching extension (at present - had been using JCH - but removed it months ago)
