Zune Support

@ganeshrvel Would you consider adding Zune support? I want it so bad I'd be happy to pay you to add it. Your software is so sweet. It's so great to use.

@nickhamze Zune is a physical device/player, right? I don't have it. Is there a way to test the code without having one, during development?

@nickhamze are you still looking for Zune support on macOS? I’m planning to add Zune support in OpenMTP.

I don’t have much knowledge about how Zune works. From the resources you shared (https://github.com/kbhomes/libmtp-zune/blob/master/mtpz.md), I see that Zune uses a handshake protocol which I’ll need to work around. I’ll look into it, but I have some questions:

  1. Are you already using any application to transfer files between macOS and Zune?

  2. How do you usually send files between Zune and PC? Do you expect direct file select and copying into the pc or music syncing?

    • At least for phase 1, my focus will be on giving an option to transfer files between Zune and macOS using OpenMTP. Not syncing, but basic file transfer similar to Android phones or other music players.

  3. What is the difference between Zune and Zune HD? Do they have different MTP specifications? I couldn’t find much technical detail online.

  4. I’m planning to buy a used Zune 30 from a reseller. He says it comes with a special cable that’s rare to find. Is there anything else I should be aware of before buying a unit for development?

  5. What model of Zune do you have?

  6. If you have any additional information about Zune that could help with development, please share.

  7. Do you know of any resources where people complained about Zune software support, issues with bad software support, or had technical discussions? Anything like that which could help me speed up my development would be useful.

  8. If possible, can you share a video showing how you use any software tool to transfer files between Zune and PC (not syncing)?
