Can't retrieve received SMS from Nokia phone

It is not possible to retrieve read SMSes stored on some Nokia phones (at least on 2680s, 2330 classic and 5310).

In simple words, wammu fails to retrieve any received message, only (some) sent message are retrieved.

However, it is possible to retrieve all the messages using

gammu getallsms > sms.smsbackup

This issue is present at least up to version Wammu/Gammu 1.32 (as packaged by Ubuntu Raring). The URLs on the old bug tracker are https://bugs.cihar.com/view.php?id=1661 and https://bugs.cihar.com/view.php?id=1568.
