Add MAGIC data

Open cdeil opened this issue 9 years ago • 5 comments

MAGIC has published data in machine-readable format here: http://vobs.magic.pic.es/fits/

We should ingest it in gamma-cat to have a complete catalog of TeV data in uniform format.

Help welcome!

@Konstancja mentioned in our f2f discussion just now that she maybe could work on this issue (adding MAGIC data to gamma-cat), or try to find someone to work on it.

There is a problem about the bib codes given in the fits-files. For example for MAGIC_2012_PKS2155.fits the bib code (keyword: REFPAPER) is J. Aleksic et al., A&A 544 (2012) 75. How can one convert it to a reference like in /input/data?

Some fits-file, e.g. MAGIC_2017_PKS1510.fits do not even have a keyword REFPAPER!

Do you really want to add these data because they are "very preliminary"?

I talked to Alba Fernandez (responsible author at the bottom of the webpage) and she told me that we can use all fits files up to 2012 and neglect when there is the keyword "preliminary" written down in the fits file.

In principle, I can handle this issue. But I am not sure what to do exactly with the fits files. For example, the first one from top on the webpage has four columns, called "theta2 [deg], Non [events], Noff [events], DNoff [events]" but I don't know how they are connected to anything in gamma-cat.
