Test if backup is recoverable

Open TKone7 opened this issue 5 years ago • 1 comments

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the ability to test if the replication from the standby could be restored in case of a node crash. Usually when I do backups of any kind I want to see if I can actually restore. It seems to me this is not so trivial in this case, as you wrote this:

  1. The standby server must become the primary
  2. The old primary must not be made operational again with the old configuration.
  3. You have to setup a new standby server

Of course I can simply check and compare the entries of the two postgreSQL databases. But can someone think of a way how I can check if I can spin on the standby machine with c-lightning running?

Thanks for any hints or advice.

If there are problems in a synced replication, the database simply stop working. That basically means that your node stop accepting any kind of variation and simply hangs. For this reason, I would say that you are safe that the database are always aligned. The worst situation is evident and consisting in one of the two not working or not communicating with each other.
