[Scalability] Performance and Scalability Test Framework

Open xieus opened this issue 5 years ago • 1 comments

Requirement

In order to test control plane scalability for a region up to 1M nodes, we would like to set up a scalability test framework to simulate a 1M nodes regional setup, and to collect latency and throughput metrics for a large-scale VPC deployment up to 100K ports.

Here are three testing scenarios:

  • Southbound gPRC fast path (Components: DPM, gRPC programming path, and ACA)
  • Southbound MQ scaling path (Components: DPM, Pulsar, ACA)
  • E2E port creation scenarios compared with current production (Components: PM/DPM/SM/RM/PIP/VMM etc. and ACA)

Environment We would need to measure the latency and throughput in a full K8s setup. Alcor Controller is initially deployed to 3 physical nodes, and could scale out to more physical nodes to support higher test load.

This issue is created as a umbrella to cover a few smaller scalability and performance testing work items.

@Eric-Yuan Can you please continue driving this performance framework, and pick up what was left a few months ago? Thanks.
