Just as FYI for people who upgraded to GNOME 45 and find themselves without a working workspace indicator.

There is spacebar if you want a simple extensions with some additional features like renaming and moving workspaces around: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/5090/space-bar/

In case you'd like to continue using workspaces-bar because it just works, I published a GNOME 45 compatible fork without any additional features: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/6394/simple-workspaces-bar/
