Add single frame photometry options to SEDMv2 follow-up menu

Open broulston opened this issue 1 year ago • 0 comments

Feature Summary Target requests to SEDMv2 are entered through fritz. Currently, the options default more toward transient science with options for single-frame photometry (important for stellar science) missing. We should add some more options to the follow-up request menu for these options.

Usage / behavior Suggest adding the following options:

  • Flag for if an imaging target should be run through the "transient" pipeline (stacking + difference imaging) or through a "stellar" pipeline in which PSF and aperture photometry are done on each individual frame
  • Currently only total exposure time is entered. Need to add an option that allows the option to change the exposure time of each individual frame, including options for filter-dependent frame exposure times.

In addition, we need to think about possible observing constraints. For example, how can we observe an eclipsing system around the time of the eclipse and enter that into the follow-up menu? This may require changing the scheduler.

How does the scheduler deal with long exposure time? Say need a 6-hour observation of a pulsating WD or another variable stellar source. How will this be scheduled? Will it ever be observed, or are long exposure times unlikely to fit into the schedule?
