I am pretty sure (almost guaranteed) that you are using a new M5stack board version which causes the problem. Meaning, I think you are likely using an updated board version official from M5Stack. This will not work. My guess is version close to 2.0.x You need to either go back to 1.0.9 which will solve your problem or use the Arduino esp32 for M5Stack-Core for any version. I use 2.4.2, but you can upgrade to 3.0.2 without a problem.

So, official M5Stack board 1.0.9 or any Arduino board version of the M5Stack board setup will resolve your issue.
