Issues Restoring Backup that was done with a dry-run

Did a backup procedure and made sure to do a dry-run. Upgrade to new version and did restore with back. Every option shows Restore error: Unexpected token 'T', "Traceback "... is not valid JSON. This is brutal and the second time this has happened. Has anyone else experienced this?

FYI, deleting the files_in_archive and files made the restore work. Can we not save large directories in our backup?
