Compatibility with recent Android versions
It seems recent Android releases throw warnings due to the application having been developed for older versions and "not including the latest privacy protections". Would it be possible to update the app to avoid this?
Currently the app page in F-Droid displays a warning when viewed on Google Android 14
This app was built for an older version of Android and cannot be updated automatically.
During installation, another warning appears:
This app was built for an older version of Android and doesn't include the latest privacy protections. Installing this app may put your device at risk. Learn more about Play Protect. [Install anyway]
I suggest you read the article "Meet Google Play's target API level requirement", which is primarily intended for Google Play users, but F-Droid users will also have difficulty finding, installing, and updating the app in situations where OS security requirements conflict with the user app.
Also, I recommend keeping in mind the changes coming in 2025.
/dup #31?
No it isn't a duplication. That report is a vague issue when using Android 11. This is a report for the specific issue when using older apps with newer Android releases. I think the comment you placed in that issue would be best under this one :)
Thanks for reporting, @B0ycee . I also don't think it is a duplicate. Unfortunately, it is not that straightforward to update. Google made breaking changes in the tooling! I spent some time on this, but without much luck yet.
Agree that it will be good to update as the current situation is far from ideal. I do not have an ETA on when I will be able to look more into this.
@fralik just wondered if you managed to make any progress?
