Unity systray whitelist (aka. Message Counter issue on Thunderbird 31.4.0 and Ubuntu 14.10 with Unity)

I'm running Thunderbird 31.4.0 and Unity 7.3.1 from official Ubuntu Utopic (14.10) repositories. With extensions.firetray.with_appindicator property set to FALSE I see no firetray icon at all. With extensions.firetray.with_appindicator property set to default TRUE, I see the icon but in the configuration window I note that "display unread messages count in tray icon" option has vanished. Such option appears again if I set extensions.firetray.with_appindicator property to FALSE, but as I said, with this value I have no icon at all.

I tried also with the unity patch to re-enable systray whitelist here:

http://www.webupd8.org/2013/05/how-to-get-systray-whitelist-back-in.html

but no luck, same behaviour as above.

Hi, see #130, and this explanation. Basically the message count can't be displayed with libappindicator at this time. #143 is tracking the replacement of libappindicator, but I haven't time to work on it at the moment. I'll close your request as a duplicate of #143. Feel free to re-open if I missed anything.

Re-reading your post, the issue is rather about the systray-whitelist-back-in trick not working. So I'll re-open.

Any progress here? Have you repeated the issue? Do you need more information to debug?
