Generalized coastline not available for download: 404: Not Found on Server

Open FlorisCalkoen opened this issue 3 years ago • 6 comments

Unfortunately the generalized coastline zoom level 8 is currently not available for download because the URL is not found on the server.

The dataset I would like to download is coastlines generalized for z=1-8 in mercator projection available as a download on this page.

The URL for downloading the dataset that returns Not Found on Server is here

Any clue where the dataset can be found? Previously it was available.

The generalized coastlines have not been available for download for something like three years now. The page you linked to is a left-over from before.

Ahh shoot.. Can they be made available in another way? Thanks!

Not unless somebody is interested enough in these to put some money towards it. See #5.

Ok thanks, I'll have a look if I can re-implement that potrace approach

For additional context and for future reference: The generalized coastlines on openstreetmapdata.com were based on the early technology demonstration that you can find on https://github.com/imagico/coastline_gen. The methodology has since then been improved for in-house use by me and is available as a commercial service (https://imagico.de/services/generalized.php). So far there has not been enough sustained interest to finance developing and maintaining this as an open source application suitable for general use and for the additional work that would be necessary to run this in a sustainable fashion as a public service on FOSSGIS infrastructure.

I am - as before - open to working on this if there is interest but so far all inquiries i have received over the years were interested only in having data processed individually for them, hence this is what i do.

@imagico, amazing, thanks. I've requested that data via your website.
