Idea: intelligent auto-stacking for albums with the same cover

As discussed on the AskUbuntu chat on 20130128:

How hard would it be to implement a detection mechanism for duplicate covers and suggest filling in the "Album Artist" field with "Various Artists" value automatically for the user?

• The user could (should?) be prompted before proceeding.
• Perhaps some kind of intelligence could be added, i.e. when the tracks are in the same folder, there's a higher probability they're on the same album
• Also, for users who don't like these kind of 'intelligent' features, an option / checkbox like "Don't ask me again" could be added.
• And to make it completely fool-proof, an 'undo' function would be absolutely fantastic :-)

Seems like a great idea! Currently we are polishing some stuff all around the the plugin, but this is worth giving a shot once we are done with that.

Even better, just treat albums with an empty/blank Album Artist the same as if it was "Various Artists". None of my compilations are tagged as "Various Artists", hence none of them are treated as the same album by coverart-browser.

actually - this would cause other issues which IMHO would be confusing.

Since most compilation albums dont have the album artist field filled - and since many compilation albums have "greatest hits" for example as the album title - you'll get multiple albums all under the one icon. Very confusing. Hence we have made the conscious decision to use the album-artist field + album name as the differentiator for albums.
