I just installed Spacemacs from develop and have the same issue. I don't have a `.spacemacs.env`, though. I switched back to stable so I can't run the Spacemacs bug wizard...

Thanks for the code in this issue, I needed this.

Looking at the issues list, there's little to no interaction from Google. It's not clear how we should escalate this.
