External SD card - no write permission

I edited a pdf ebook through highlighting text. When closing the file, librera asks me if I want to save the file with the options of "yes", "no", "rename".

When I click "yes", the file closes but when I re-open the file, the highliting of the text is no longer there. When I click "rename", it says "permission denied" when closing.

It looks like Librera has no writing access on the SD card. How can this be fixed?

Internal storage is very limited so it would be important to handle files on the SD card.
