request to double check the solder tip pinout definition
Dear sir, great project!! For the 245 solder tip pinout, could you please double check that you can measure temperature from the 245 solder tip pin 1(green) and pin2(blue) when you have a chance ?
because I found the pinout information in your front page may not be correct ?
Anyway, to make it easier, allow me to define the largest body/shell as 1 (green in your front page), the middle part as 2(blue), and the smallest tail pin as 3(red).
According to my measurement, when heated with hot air gun to 40-50c, pin1(green) and 2(blue) cannot measure temperature at all (most digital multimeter can do it measure temp), while other pin combination can. and I did it with two different clone tips from two different brand names /sellers, one is Kaisi, the other is AiXun. base on this fact, pin 1(green) and 2(blue) should be heater pin, and not ThermalCouple pin or in serial of it at all.
On the other hand, if the front page pinout is correct, pin 1 and 2 should have been measured 40-50C (but no it couldn't ).

In that case, could you have been providing 24V to the heater through the TC ? ...
another thing, some clone handle may use random color for different pins, so....
yet another possibility, different clone tip has different pinout ??

Hi. Thank you for your mail and informations. You asked a big question, because we've spent hours to figure out how it could be, and the actual status is still not 1000% sure. So maybe you are right, you can be right, yes. But according to my own measurements the conclusion was that you can see in the project's github readme. After your e-mail may I will try to wire up the iron to my soldering controller PCB as you say. But on the other hand, there are lot of aftermarket tip on the market, so maybe they can be different. I used original JBC cartridges. I learned measurement technics at university, but shame on me, I dont know what could I do with this situation. I will take a try at my company with the 4 wire ohm meter and I will test the cartridge on some more precise measurement equipments. If I have something new I will update the documents and write an update to you. If you check the cross section of the tip, you can see, that gap between TC and heater is quite nothing... But, if you flow the heater current between C1 and C2 the current will pass through the TC element as well, but IDK it is a real problem or not, but the situation is this. And if you use C2 and C3 for heating and C1 and C3 for the TC the heater current wont flow through the TC. My personal experience: It was a way more harder to write a proper control code because the just switched off current caused noise on the TC right before ADC measurement, and thanks to the high gain of the OPA the ADC input saturated to VCC, this is why Great Scott's solution is not 100% correct. https://youtu.be/UvH49nzpJts?t=567 open this video and see how often measures 0 instead of the real temperatures. I think the root cause of his station is that he let the current flow through the TC element, and he don't let the sw to act based on faulty measurements, so he just substitute faulty measurements with 0 and it was easier for him. :D I think mine is more sophisticated, but I don't want to be pompous.
