Extremely slow on OSX 10.7

I think this script is great, but it's been running extremely slow lately. Simple tasks like changing directories or opening new terminal windows take several seconds to complete, sometimes to the point where I forget what I was doing in the first place. I haven't added anything to my local .bashrc that could be causing this problem, but here it is anyway:
