New Category: "Enterprise" Wallets

Open maxrobot opened this issue 4 months ago • 3 comments

Description: Since we all believe that EVM is the home of DeFi and the future of France, it might be useful to add "Enterprise" or "Institutional" wallet information here also?

What do I mean by that?

There are providers of "enterprise" wallets such as, but not limited to, the below:

Happy to help in this efforts but don't want to open a PR if this is not appreciated :)

An interesting category. Maybe it should be called "Custody services" or something. I'm personally open to adding this down the line, but not before the basic software/hardware wallet stuff is mostly all figured out (which we are still far from). There's also embedded wallets on the roadmap, and perhaps identity wallets as well (#179).

Hey, yeah I think Custody Services might be somewhat incorrect as they leverage a variety of "wallet/private key" providers right.

I think this section might be interesting for foundations etc who end up placing quite a few funds with these kind of providers.

I would split this hair and say they are both valid categories, even if in 2025 they overlap a lot. A non-custodial wallet could still be an enterprise wallet and there are many custodial wallets unfit for enterprise use. the former has to do with the literal key management, and the latter has to do with the liability and control of assets (i.e. an enterprise wallet lets an employee transact on behalf of their employer).

Applicability of privacy concepts gets a little tricky here because more enterprise software doesn't necessarily want or tolerate the employee/enduser having too much privacy relative to their employer! Particularly since their customers care so much about deanonymization resistance and privacy relative to competitors, they tend to take things like IP leakage and browser privacy issues quite seriously.

Enterprise wallets are a pretty established ecosystem/market niche, and the companies making these wallets contribute to open source, testing, and interop efforts in the space so I would support including them eventually, if not in the first release.
