Backup / Data download
Hey flov, Is there a way (planned?) to be able to download one's own data on hitchlog? Just wondering, I would like to keep regular backups for the case the website one day in the far future might disappear. Would be a pity to loose my logs then. Cheers!
Hi Platschi,
not yet, it’s not yet planned, but I could make an api with which you could download your data in json format. Would you know what to do with that? I am just working full time as a software dev for some startup here in Berlin so I don’t have enough time to work on hitchlog. If there’s a demand for it I will do it, but once I got some more time. As long as I am alive though, the hitchlog will go on. That you can be sure of :P.
Love&Gratitude, Flo

Hey @flov
How is it rolling? :-)
I just stumbled upon this and I had an idea. Let's schedule a manual event to each other's calendars like once a year to manually backup data from Hitchlog to Hitchwiki's private backup repository?
We are "secretly" backupping important hitching related stuff: news articles, websites, blogs, research articles, books, etc
Having just a simple SQL dump (e.g. with emails and passwords and other sensitive info garbled) would be cool.
I could write quick script to do this, what do you think?
This is a bit grim link to throw in here but just some food for thought. :-)

We've sadly had this happen several times in hitching world. :-(

Yes, please :)
I'd be glad to help with that. I'm also working full time but if the scope is well defined, I'm happy to take some time for it.
