Newer iMacs, Hopefully

Do you have any reason to suspect that this could work on the new iMacs? Thinking that possibly TDM was only disabled by removing the ⌘ + F2 shortcut, but all the hardware/software was left alone.

Very unlikely, unfortunately, all the newer iMacs use different hardware (Thunderbolt) for this, so the code will only work for the really old ones.
