High network utilisation

Open DeFiYaco opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

I am experiencing very high network utilisation for some reason with the latest stable release 0.5.0-beta-22 arm (macos). To the point where my weak internet connection completely chugs down due to upload bandwidth limit and the only way is to kill the frame wallet app.

What is it doing in the background? Why is it uploading anything?

Hi @ShardYaco, could you test this on the latest Canary build?

goosewobbler avatar Dec 27 '22 10:12 goosewobbler

Sure! Is there already a prebuilt Canary version or do I need to build it myself?

We have Canary.11 builds here: https://github.com/frame-labs/frame-canary/releases

I also noticed a ton of RPC endpoints being hit: image

I haven't used Polygon at all in the past month, and Arbitrum scarcely. Odd to see them being hit so much. I mostly use Mainnet, Gnosis Chain and Optimism, but those don't even make the top list of resolved domains on my DNS.

Not sure if related to this issue?

Oh wow, I checked my data usage and can report similar findings. In my case Frame has used about 726 GB (!!!) within the last 30 days, and I haven't even interaced with it during that time. 🤯 image

I have six RPC active:

  • Ethereum
  • Arbitrum
  • Polygon
  • Binance Smart Chain Mainnet
  • Fantom Opera
  • Avalanche Mainnet

And for three of them I use a custom RPC:

  • Ethereum: https://api.edennetwork.io/v1/rocket
  • Binance Smart Chain Mainnet: https://bsc-dataseed1.binance.org
  • Avalanche Mainnet: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc

Frame version: 0.5.0-beta-22 OS: Windows 10

We've worked to optimize this in our upcoming release -- if you haven't already, we'd love for you try our canary version and report back: https://github.com/frame-labs/frame-canary/releases/latest

If you do, jump in our Discord and we'll add you to the canary channel so you can connect with the team and other canary users.

Jus noticed mine on Mac Arm used 18gb data (11 down, 7 up) in 20 minutes of being opened

I've also been noticing random spikes in CPU usage while just surfing on regular web2 - installing canary version now and will report back.

@daveai please raise a separate issue or support query in our discord if you are experiencing CPU spikes. We have made a few changes in Canary to address CPU usage especially on Mac.
