Font not showing, except in edit mode

I'm having a weird issue with the font. I've got a work around, but it'd be nice to not need it.

When in edit mode the font shows fine:

But when out of edit mode the font doesn't work. Unless you add more yaml:

card_mod:
  style: |
    ha-card {
      font-family: "Rajdhani";
    }

The following shows the card on the left with the YAML and the one on the right without.

This could quite plausibly be due to how I've got card-mod or the font installed, as it's taken me ages to get this far, but I can't see anything wrong there.
