Article: Zero trust attestation with Fleet
Hi, @zhumo. Where did the request for this article come from? We're shaping up to publish four articles this week, which exceeds our cadence of one weekly article. It would be very helpful to be notified of plans to add content in advance, so that we can slot them in the content calendar accordingly. The articles you write can give me more time with articles that require more research, provided I know when you plan to write them.
Also, when drafting new articles, could you please submit them as Google Docs before creating PRs? Google Docs are more efficient for collaboration and revisions that may be more substantial than simple line edits. Please drop them in the help-content-calendar Slack channel.
Hey Chris,
I'll send you a google doc separately.
This is one of the OKRs for launching fleet desktop, is to write a guide to zero trust. I tried sending you a note in the content calendar google sheet sometime last week. Definitely not good advance notice. Sorry for that. I think we can ship this later if we have too many in the queue right now.
No worries! Thank you for writing all this content, @zhumo. My apologies for missing that note. I'll keep a closer eye on those in the future.
I think we can post this next week. Would that work for you?
Works for me!

Hi, @zhumo. Sorry for the delay with this article. I plan to publish this next week, pending any feedback you have regarding the suggested revisions in the Google doc.

If these changes work for you, I can update the PR accordingly. I think the only information we still need is the osquery setting to override the hourly policy report. Do you know where I can find that?
@chris-mcgillicuddy I accepted all your comments in the doc. They look great! I would love for @zwass to read through this to verify accuracy, before we merge, however.

Also, @zwass what's the setting that toggles osquery's check-in period?
distributed_interval
is probably the config you are thinking of? Osquery checks in for other things, but distributed_interval
is the one that controls live queries (and therefor also refetches of host details/policies/software).
https://fleetdm.com/docs/deploying/configuration#osquery-policy-update-interval is the config I was looking for.
@mike-j-thomas, we'll need an image for this article.

@chris-mcgillicuddy, I committed the images to this PR.
@zhumo, I added my revisions to the PR. Would you like to review it one more time before merging?
