filechooser and document portal acts weirdly with symlink

Description
So I have a folder ~/.local/share/anime-game-launcher
I symlink this to ~/.var/app/moe.launcher.an-anime-game-launcher/data/anime-game-launcher
On GNOME, if I try to open ~/.var/app/moe.launcher.an-anime-game-launcher/data/anime-game-launcher/config.json
after adding a filesystem override to ~/.local/share/anime-game-launcher, it fails to open
but if i block ~/.local/share/anime-game-launcher, it opens fine
does not happen on xdg-desktop-portal-kde
