Footer not aligned well

The footer doesn't share the grid with the content area, and lacks whitespace at the bottom.

Hey, I'd like to pick this task up. Couldn't find a contributors guide. Is it okay just to get started on this and send in a pull request?

We have to change the footer to add the sponsor's logos #130 so I think it's better that you don't work on this now. When it's ready or I find something else I will ping you.
