search is missing results

Open oilian opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

I was searching for the app "Flameshot" on flathub.org. However when I searched for "Flame", I got several apps, but not "Flameshot". Flameshot only showed up when searching for "Flamesho" or the whole app name.

This limits finding applications when only knowing part of the app name.

I think this issue should be split up into two:

  1. Sometimes even searching for the app's exact name does not turn up the app. For example, searching for "0 A.D." (the exact name of this game on Flathub) returns no results.
  2. It'd be good to use fuzzy search to get results for inexact matches. E.g. it'd be great if searching for "0 AD" also turned up the aforementioned game, or if searching for "FOSS triangulator" showed the FOSStriangulator app.

I agree, at the moment this is a very obvious limitation for finding applications.

When searching "ncurses", I got all the results of the database. When searching "console", I got a limited set but wrong.

It's better to have: "No result found" and not overload the servers.

The new page gives 0 entries for ncurses and 25 for console, would that be what you expect? https://flathub.vercel.app/apps/search/console
