packet (Equinix Metal) support

We've spent some time on this in the past. Should we pick this up again?

  • [x] CAPI v1 support is merged upstream: https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/cluster-api-provider-packet/pull/307
  • [ ] template + metadata injection work needed (No upstream issue yet)

@t-lo can you expand more on "template + metadata injection work needed (No upstream issue yet)" -- I don't know if this was already addressed or not

This is about a Flatcar cluster template in Cluster API Provider EM, and checking that ignition is passed through correctly from CAPI core to the EM API, taking into account any modifications CAP-EM might be making. Wasn't addressed yet.
