Redesign Download UI and Experience for Flatcar ISO Images
Downloading Flatcar ISO images is currently a confusing process for users, as the interface makes it difficult to locate and select the correct image. There are many variants and release channels, and it's not clear to users how to find the right download for their needs.
Proposed steps:
- Research and review download flows from similar projects for inspiration.
- Design a new Download button or dedicated subpage that clearly surfaces all available Flatcar image downloads.
- Ensure the UI allows users to easily filter/select platform, variant, and release channel.
- Implement the new UI/UX, ensuring ease of use and clarity.
This improvement will help users quickly access the Flatcar images they need without confusion.
Background:
- The current download experience is unintuitive and hides critical functionality.
- Users need a streamlined, discoverable, and filterable way to download images for different platforms and channels.
My two cents while I have the head in this. This interface: https://alpha.release.flatcar-linux.net/amd64-usr/current/ is the default one generated by Caddy and it's a template that we can customize (https://caddyserver.com/docs/caddyfile/directives/file_server)
https://github.com/flatcar/flatcar-website/pull/494 - This PR is a temporary workaround - it just points to releases, but still a more full fledged Download User Interface should be present, to guide a user to what they actually want, without showing them hundreds of options to download all at once
