i915 stuck/freeze during installation

Open leon-ITA opened this issue 3 months ago • 6 comments

Hi All, I've try to install flatcar (beta) on my server AlderLake N100 processor. The installation stuck/freeze with this message: i915....[drm] VT-d active for gfx access

Image

I've run Ubuntu from USB, download the script and run the attached ignition, for semplicy attached the yaml.

ignition_GitBug.yaml

How it can be solved?

Hi,

Can you provide the exact command here:

I've run Ubuntu from USB, download the script and run the attached ignition, for semplicy attached the yaml.

Just to be sure, is that possible that you provided the direct YAML Butane configuration instead of the JSON configuration to the installer script?

Thanks!

Hi tormath1 no for semplicità I have attached the yaml, but I've used the Json I've download the script flatcar-install then chmod +x flatcar-install and after I've install flatcar according the documentation. Installation as you can see start but hang. I guess is a problem with Intel gpu into the Linux kernel

Hey, thanks for confirming. Did you try with a current Stable (https://www.flatcar.org/releases#release-4230.2.2)? This does not ship the i915 module. I'd be interested to see where it goes.

I found that the shell crashes on external video, but if I try to connect via ssh everything works fine, the only drawback is not being able to see the complete logs at startup. This aspect should be improved, I hope soon

Thanks for letting us know.

Did you give a try? This will help us to be sure that's it's this Kernel module that is faulty here.

I've have done several test before to understand that monitor output was hang but ssh was good, for sure I've try also a stable version but I don't have any evidence, problem was the same I never see a full command terminal on the monitor,
